Chairman Neil Weir writes: The Heritage Week held from Saturday 27th August until Saturday 3 September, in Milngavie Town Hall, former Court Room, was acclaimed a great success by its hundreds of visitors.
Themes in the exhibition provided interest for both old and young. They included photographs of past Milngavie provosts, and of streets and buildings, many long gone. School photographs from years past allowed many grandparents and relatives to be identified by family members. A great draw for all ages, courtesy of East Dunbartonshire Council, was a DVD presentation of the Bennie Rail plane. A video recording of many places of interest, including Garvie's lemonade factory and Mugdock Castle was provided by members of the Heritage and History Group. Amongst many photographs were those of the 1st Milngavie Boys Brigade, Milngavie Pipe Band, the Paper Mill, and the Reservoirs.
Children from Milngavie's four primary schools contributed four paintings showing places of interest in Milngavie. The paintings have been returned the schools for safe keeping until we have a permanent display. Children also took part in a quiz to identify changed features in old photographs.
